Make your job, your hobby!
Improve your work life with these simple tips
Hating 9-5s and boring, repetitive desk jobs is fairly common in today’s society. But it doesn’t have to be this way! There are plenty of tips to improve your workplace well-being, work life enjoyment and in turn, substantially increase office productivity. These tips are more for employers than employees, but it all works the same for everyone.
Improve the look of the office interior
Just painting the walls a different colour might not work by itself, so be creative and get your employees involved. During any downtime, ask your staff what they’d like on the walls, or let each employee bring their own choice of picture or canvas to put on the wall. This way, they will feel like they’re a part of something bigger.
Make it fun to be there – get some better furniture
Valve Corporation, a video game developer, is known for having wheels attached to their employees’ desks and chairs so they are free to move around where they see fit, and this has proven to increase workflow. Employees don’t just want to sit and be told what to do for 8 hours a day, or type on a computer screen looking at the same view. You have to get them enjoying what they do.
Keep the mind and body active
Long shifts can obviously be less than attractive to people, so that’s why you need to make sure they’re always kept active. For example, the offices of Pepsi have an in-house gym for employees to use at their leisure. This allows employees to work up a sweat and get the blood flowing either before or during their shift.
Eating right
This might seem obvious, but during long hours, employees might not find time to get proper meals. Consider a catering service and comfortable ‘relaxation’ areas for employees to unwind and let their minds relax for half an hour, as this will increase overall office productivity. If not catering, consider asking everyone what they want to eat and go out for them. Show them that you care about them and their needs, and they will return the favour.
