The meeting of the year is approaching, are you ready?

It’s often the simple things that are missing!

You have the meeting of the year coming up with a potential new client. The game-changing sort of client with the potential to catapult your business into the next league. You’ve put in the hours on your presentation and your best employees have been briefed and are ready to deliver their punchiest pitch to date. The boardroom has been set-up; the laptop is whirring productively and the smell of the expensive coffee you’ve brought in lingers in the air. You’re ready. Except you’re not because you can’t find a notepad. A quick search of your desk and a rummage in the stationery cupboard confirms that you may well have to take notes on a series of post-its, or worse… the “Boss Man” leopard print notebook you got in the office Secret Santa last Christmas. Not the sterling first impression you were aiming for. You weren’t organised!

Don’t overlook the basics

Often, we are so busy with the “important” things that we overlook the basics. Absorbed in preparing that perfect PowerPoint presentation. Serving up stellar statistics. We forget to stock up on stationery, the very “staple” of office life (excuse the pun).

Forward planning is vital if you want your office running more smoothly than leaky hand soap. As Richard Cushing wisely put it: “Always plan ahead. It wasn’t raining when Noah built the ark.”

Stay ahead, stay organised and order supplies in advance

Ok, so unless you’re in the business of shipbuilding, no one’s building an ark, but those wise words are transferable to all aspects of life, not least office life. Don’t hold off on the stationery order until the day you run out of notepads. Don’t wait until the toner cartridge for the photocopier needs replacing before you order a new one. Chances are you’ll be left taking notes on “that” leopard print notebook with a dozen delegates in need of a copy of a report and nothing to give them other than a stale biscuit from one of the Christmas tins.
